Basketball Game Preview: Battle Mountain Longhorns vs. Silver Stage Nighthawks

Battle Mountain is 8-2 against Silver Stage since January of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. Having just played yesterday, the Battle Mountain Longhorns will get right back to it and host the Silver Stage Nighthawks at 7:30 p.m. The timing is sure in Battle Mountain's favor as the squad sits on five straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Silver Stage has been banged up by 12 consecutive losses on the road also dating back to last season.

Battle Mountain fought the good fight in their overtime match against West Wendover on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 69-59 to the Wolverines.

Despite the loss, Battle Mountain saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Geovanni Ruvalcaba went 6 of 11 from beyond the arc on his way to 24 points and three steals. Ruvalcaba's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Adan Nevarez, who posted nine points in addition to eight rebounds and six assists.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 60 points the game before, Silver Stage was a bit more limited in their game two weeks ago. They were beaten by Yerington 65-24. The contest marked the Nighthawks' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Silver Stage's defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Battle Mountain, their loss dropped their record down to 6-5.

Everything came up roses for Battle Mountain against Silver Stage when the teams last played back in February of 2024, as the team secured a 69-38 victory. In that game, Battle Mountain amassed a halftime lead of 40-18, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
