Basketball Recap: Isaias Morales' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Socorro over Franklin

Socorro was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 53-48 heartbreaker at the hands of the Franklin Cougars. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 40-37 back in December of 2024.

Socorro's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Isaias Morales, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Morales a new career-high in assists (three). Another player making a difference was Kris Fang, who posted 16 points and six assists.

Even though they lost, Socorro was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Socorro's loss dropped their record down to 5-21. As for Franklin, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 14-13.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Socorro will host Coronado at 6:00 p.m. on January 31st. As for Franklin, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Eastlake at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Eastlake is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.3 points per game this season.
