Baseball Recap: Atlantic Christian Now 8-1 over Last Nine Games

Atlantic Christian proved they can win big on Friday (they won by nine) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over the Gloucester County Christian Conquerors. Surprisingly, this marked the Cougars' fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Luke Odell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on four hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Seth Phillips was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Atlantic Christian's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-4 when he doesn't). Charlie Costello also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Atlantic Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Atlantic Christian has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for Gloucester County Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-5.

Looking ahead, Atlantic Christian will welcome Pleasantville at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Gloucester County Christian, they will head out to challenge King's Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
