Baseball Recap: East Valley Takes a Loss

East Valley extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 25 on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 0-18 in the process. They lost 11-1 to the Rogers Pirates. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Pirates this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-2 back in April.

East Valley saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dakota Jackson, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base.

As for Rogers, their record is now 4-14. Considering their hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

On Rogers' side, Jackson Ables was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Ables is becoming a predictor of Rogers' success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 3-1 (and 1-13 when he doesn't). Ables was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lucas Hernandez, who went 3-for-4 with five stolen bases, two runs, and one double. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jacob Proctor, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

While East Valley had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
