Softball Recap: Southampton Academy Gets the Win

Southampton Academy came out on top against Fuqua on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run seventh inning. The Raiders walked away with a 9-5 victory over the Falcons. This was a revenge game for the Raiders: when they faced off against the Falcons back in March, they had to take a 6-2 loss.

Dutchess Rose spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on nine hits.

On the hitting side, Sara Hodges was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one triple. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kelsey Braun, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Southampton Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are undefeated (5-0) when they post 11 or more hits.

Southampton Academy now has a winning record of 7-6-1. As for Fuqua, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 10-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southampton Academy will face off against Brunswick Academy at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Vikings' pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so the Raiders' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Fuqua, they will challenge Temple Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Falcons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Crusaders have averaged an impressive 10.6 runs per game this season.
