Softball Recap: Tupelo Comes Up Short

Tupelo had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped down to 13-12 to make it four. They fell 7-4 to the DeSoto Central Jaguars. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Jaguars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-2 two weeks ago.

Imory Ivy was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Jazmine Quinn was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one triple and two RBI.

As for DeSoto Central, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 22-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games.

On DeSoto Central's side, Colby Young spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on four hits and racked up seven Ks. Young has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 12 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Hanna McCain, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Katelyn Short, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Tupelo wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 12-1 victory against Southaven on the 13th. As for DeSoto Central, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 2-1 defeat against Hernando on the 14th.
