Volleyball Recap: El Camino Wildcats vs. Fallbrook Warriors
If El Camino was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Oceanside last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Wildcats fell just short of the Fallbrook Warriors by a score of 3-2 on Friday. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Warriors apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.
El Camino took a 2-1 lead headed into the fourth set, but sadly they lost the next two. The match finished with set scores of 24-26, 25-23, 16-25, 25-13, 15-9.
Ryan Nash paced El Camino's offense, picking up 16 kills. Nash got some help from John Ritz and his 24 assists. Nash also made an impact serving: he shared the team lead in aces with RJ Gabut-Rivas, racking up two apiece.
Fallbrook's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jason Fuentes led the charge by getting 32 digs and three assists. Those 32 digs gave Fuentes a new career-high. Christian Tagle-Nava also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.
El Camino's defeat dropped their record down to 11-10. As for Fallbrook, they pushed their record up to 15-8 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. El Camino will square off against Escondido Charter at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Fallbrook, they will face off against Oceanside at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
