Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Williamson). They put the hurt on the Monroe County Tigers with a sharp 25-15 win on Wednesday. This was payback for the Lions, who suffered a 7-5 loss the last time these two teams met.
Todrick Withers was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all six of his plate appearances. Williamson is 4-1 when Withers posts two or more stolen bases, but 2-7 otherwise. Tyler Gaines was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Williamson has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games. As for Monroe County, they are on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-9.
Coming up, Williamson will head out to challenge Blount at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. The Leopards will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Lions surely won't give up without a fight.
