Football Recap: Hilltop Extends Winning Streak to Four + How To Watch

Hilltop hadn't done well against Montgomery recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Lancers came out on top against the Aztecs by a score of 28-20. 28 seems to be a good number for the Lancers as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.

Hilltop's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Leo Mendoza, who rushed for 156 yards and one score. That's the most rushing yards Mendoza has posted since back in August. Julian Moran was another key receiver, picking up 95 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

Despite the loss, Montgomery saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Qassim Williams rushed for 163 yards and one touchdown on only 14 carries. Williams' longest rush was for an impressive 67 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

The victory (which was Hilltop's fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 12.5 points on average over those games. As for Montgomery, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-4 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hilltop will welcome Olympian at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles' defense has only allowed 13.1 points per game this season, so the Lancers' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Montgomery, they will be playing at home against Bonita Vista at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
