Basketball Game Preview: Shadyside Tigers vs. Caldwell Redskins

Shadyside and Caldwell are an even 3-3 against one another since December of 2016, but not for long. The Shadyside Tigers will host the Caldwell Redskins at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses for Shadyside and ten for Caldwell.

Shadyside is likely headed into the contest with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against Catholic Central on Monday. Shadyside took a 51-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of Catholic Central.

Meanwhile, Caldwell also suffered a loss in their last game, but this one to Shenandoah by a score of 54-47. While losing is never fun, the Redskins can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 569th, while the Zeps are ranked 233rd).

Shadyside will have to keep a close watch on Breighlee Moracco and Lyla Lowe, a pair of players who had a big impact on Caldwell's prior game. Moracco went 5 of 8 en route to 13 points and four steals, while Lowe dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 boards. Moracco is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Lexi Franklin, who posted 12 points.

Even though they lost, Caldwell smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

Shadyside's loss dropped their record down to 3-13. As for Caldwell, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-12.

Shadyside was taken down by Caldwell 73-34 when the teams last played back in December of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Moracco, who went 9 for 18 on her way to 26 points along with five assists and five steals.
