Baseball Game Preview: McKeel Academy Wildcats vs. Owasso Rams

The McKeel Academy Wildcats will take on the Owasso Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with McKeel Academy sitting on three straight victories and Owasso on eight.

McKeel Academy proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by 15) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 win over Rockledge.

Caleb Clanton tossed a big game, striking out ten batters over 5.2 innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off 11 hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jorge Cordova, who scored a run while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in hits. Another player making a difference was Brock Spurgeon, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, everything went Owasso's way against Lake Wales on Monday as Owasso made off with a 14-8 victory. Considering the Rams have won ten matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Owasso's win bumped their record up to 12-1. As for McKeel Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 8-5.

McKeel Academy took their win against Owasso in their previous meeting back in March of 2023 by a conclusive 11-5. Will McKeel Academy repeat their success, or does Owasso have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
