Preview: North Side Gators vs. Charleston Tigers
North Side has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on The Charleston Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, North Side got themselves on the board against Riverside, but Riverside never followed suit. They blew past the Bulldogs 42-0 at home. Given North Side's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi football rankings (they are ranked 124th, while Riverside is ranked 249th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Charleston took their contest on the road on Friday with ease, bagging a 40-8 victory over O'Bannon. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Charleston just coasted through the last quarter.
Charleston relied on the efforts of Quentin Carter, who rushed for 95 yards and a touchdown on only six carries, and Marcus Flowers jr, who rushed for 93 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries. Deondre Riley was in the mix too, providing Charleston with two touchdowns.
North Side's win was their fifth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 31.6 points per game. Charleston has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season.
North Side ended up a good deal behind Charleston in their previous meeting back in October of 2022, losing 34-18. Can North Side avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
