Softball Recap: Eastside Lions vs. Quartz Hill Royals

Eastside had lost four straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 10-9-1 to make it five. They came up short against the Quartz Hill Royals, falling 13-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Royals this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-3 on April 1st.

Sayde Morgan was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Bethanie Jimenez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one double.

As for Quartz Hill, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 16-6. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by eight runs or more this season.

On Quartz Hill's side, Dakota Ponder spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, Leanna Medina and Nina Sepulveda did most of the damage at the plate: Medina went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles, while Sepulveda went 3-for-5 with one home run and five RBI. That's the most hits Medina has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Emily Cowan, who went 1-for-5 with four runs and one RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Eastside will face off against rival Palmdale at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Quartz Hill is set to take on their familiar foe Antelope Valley at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
