Basketball Game Preview: Waverly Vikings vs. Wahoo Warriors

The Waverly Vikings will head out to take on the Wahoo Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Waverly will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.

Last Saturday, Waverly didn't have too much trouble with Seward as they won 47-33. Given the Vikings' advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked seventh, while the Bluejays are ranked 40th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Parker Christiansen and Annie Harms were among the main playmakers for Waverly as the former posted 14 points and the latter earned 13 points. Mia Jackson was another key player, putting up seven points.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wahoo). They simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat Ralston 64-16. The Warriors pushed the score to 56-14 by the end of the third, a deficit the Rams had no chance of recovering from.

Wahoo's win came from a few key players Waverly will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Claire Emerson, who had 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Addy Hancock, who scored 11 points.

Waverly pushed their record up to 10-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.4 points per game. As for Wahoo, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 8-6.

Waverly skirted past Wahoo 38-35 in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Waverly since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
