Softball Recap: Marathon Comes Up Short

If Marathon was riding high fresh off their 12-2 takedown of Tomahawk on Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Red Raiders fell just short of the Grantsburg Pirates by a score of 3-2 on Saturday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Red Raiders of the 9-8 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2019.

Marathon saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Paityn Brickner, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

Marathon's defeat dropped their record down to 15-4. As for Grantsburg, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 14-0.

Coming up, Marathon will face off against Edgar at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Red Raiders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season. As for Grantsburg, they will challenge Augusta at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Beavers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so the Pirates' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
