Football Recap: Rylin Gentry's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Custer County over Lockwood

Custer County had lost five straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 2-6 to make it six. They took a hard 47-32 fall against the Lockwood LIONS. The Cowboys were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the LIONS apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in August of 2024.

Custer County's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rylin Gentry, who threw for 322 yards and four touchdowns, and also punched in one TD on the ground. The Cowboys' leading receiver Jake Phalen was Gentry's top target yet again, picking up 182 receiving yards and one score.

As for Lockwood, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 3-6 record. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

It was another big night for Nate Davis, who rushed for 287 yards and five TDs while picking up 11.5 yards per carry. He didn't just play on offense: he also made four total tackles and defended one pass. Another player making a difference was Raider Kalfell, who threw for 97 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only nine passes.

As of now, neither Custer County nor Lockwood have any future games scheduled.
