Basketball Recap: Burlington's Winning Streak Snapped at Three Games

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Burlington couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They took a 54-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Akron Rams on Thursday. The Cougars were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Rams earlier this season, when they won 50-45.

When it comes to explaining why Burlington lost, don't look at Kiyarra Williams. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Williams is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in each of the last four games she's played. Marilena (My) Lee was another key player, putting up five points along with six boards and three steals.

Even though they lost, Burlington smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 22 consecutive matchups.

The loss snapped Burlington's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 20-6 record. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 25.3 points on average over those games. As for Akron, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-10.

Burlington wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 50-33 win against Sargent on the 14th. As for Akron, they have also already played their next contest, a 53-41 defeat against Merino on the 14th.
