Baseball Recap: Niles Notre Dame Takes a Loss

Niles Notre Dame had lost four straight at home, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 8-10-1 to make it five. They fell just short of the Saint Viator Lions by a score of 6-5. The Dons were not able to make up for their loss to the Lions from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Niles Notre Dame got a good showing from Christian Lopez, who pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. That's the fewest hits Lopez has allowed over his last four matches.

On the hitting side, Michael Keany made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs. Dominic Holton was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one RBI.

As for Saint Viator, their win bumped their record up to 8-10. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since April 14th.

On Saint Viator's side, Lincoln Sernel looked comfortable as he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Sernel has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Alec Harer, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that he has snagged this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Tanner Beyna, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
