Football Recap: Overton Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Jacob Osburn and Rylan Holleman

If Overton was feeling good fresh off their 41-7 takedown of Tenaha last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Mustangs took a 44-29 bruising from the Lovelady Lions on Friday. The Mustangs haven't had much luck with the Lions recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Rylan Holleman and Jacob Osburn certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Holleman gained 312 total yards and two touchdowns, while Osburn picked up 116 receiving yards and a pair of scores. Holleman also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making six total tackles and defending three passes in addition to snagging an interception.

Even if they lost, Overton's defensive line still kept up the pressure with five sacks. In that department, Gabriel Miller was the leader with three.

Overton's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Lovelady, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-0.

Coincidentally, Overton and Lovelady will both be playing Alto the next time they take the field. The Lions will host the Yellowjackets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Mustangs will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on the 24th.
