Softball Recap: Nordhoff Rangers vs. Santa Paula Cardinals
Nordhoff had lost three straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 2-10 to make it four. They came up short against the Santa Paula Cardinals, falling 13-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cardinals this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 24-8 back in March.
Nordhoff saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Addison Seymour, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI.
As for Santa Paula, their win bumped their record up to 8-10. Considering they have won eight matches by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
On Santa Paula's side, Ayla Rodriguez tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits. Rodriguez has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Santa Paula got a massive performance out of Ali Espinosa, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those four hits gave Espinosa a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Carmen Chavez, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.
Nordhoff wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 10-4 victory against Channel Islands on the 1st. As for Santa Paula, they have also already played their next contest, a 2-1 loss against Royal on the 30th.
