Basketball Recap: Manning Takes a Loss

After flying high against Andrews last Tuesday, Manning came back down to earth. The Manning Monarchs were just a bucket shy of victory on Tuesday and fell 39-38 to the Andrews Yellowjackets. The Monarchs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Yellowjackets earlier this season, when they won 62-42.

Despite the loss, Manning had strong showings from Tamia Watson, who posted four points and 17 rebounds, and Aysia Moore, who put up ten points. Those 17 boards gave Watson a new career-high.

Andrews found their leader in freshman Makayla Singleton, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 boards. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for Singleton. Another player making a difference was Shaniya Coachman, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds.

Manning's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Andrews, their victory ended a ten-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-6.

Manning will venture away from home to face off against Scott's Branch at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Andrews, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 80-12 loss against Berkeley on the 11th.
