Softball Game Preview: East Helena Vigilantes vs. Dawson County Red Devils

The East Helena Vigilantes will venture away from home to square off against the Dawson County Red Devils at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

East Helena is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Park 20-19. The Vigilantes' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Maddie Surginer and Sara Dearing did most of the damage at the plate: Surginer went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Dearing went 2-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Those three runs gave Dearing a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Stu Rogers, who went 2-for-5 with three runs and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: East Helena kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Dawson County posted their closest win since May 25, 2024 last Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Custer County 14-13.

Ashley Eaton made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Eaton was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Dawson County got a massive performance out of Venice Torres, who went 3-for-4 with four runs and one RBI. Kyra Wahl also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

East Helena moved to 4-11 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Dawson County, their record is now 6-9.
