Volleyball Game Preview: La Jolla Vikings vs. St. Augustine Saints

After both having extra time off, the La Jolla Vikings and the St. Augustine Saints will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

La Jolla picked up another tournament win last Saturday. They had just enough and edged out Santa Barbara 2-1.

La Jolla had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next two. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 15-25, 25-12, 19-17.

Meanwhile, St. Augustine hadn't done well against Francis Parker recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Saints put the hurt on the Lancers with a sharp 3-0 victory. The win was familiar territory for the Saints, who have now won three matches in a row.

One reason for the win was St. Augustine's just kept getting better, winning each set by more points than the last. The final score came out to 26-24, 25-23, 25-22.

The victory got La Jolla back to even at 12-12. As for St. Augustine, their win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-9.

La Jolla came up short against St. Augustine in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, falling 3-1. Can the Vikings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
