Basketball Recap: Maliyah Williams and Jaeda Davis Secure Win for Marion

Marion won the last time they faced Manning and things went their way on Friday too. The Marion Swamp Foxes secured a 46-40 W over the Manning Monarchs. Given the Swamp Foxes' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 80th, while the Monarchs are ranked 214th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Marion to victory were Jaeda Davis and Maliyah Williams. Davis posted 18 points, while Williams put up 13 points. That makes it 11 consecutive games in which Davis has scored at least a third of Marion's points.

Aysia Moore and Ameerah Conyers certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Moore went 5 of 9 on her way to 12 points, while Conyers earned six points along with 19 rebounds and six blocks. The dominant performance also gave Moore a new career-high in shooting accuracy (56%). Another player making a difference was Tamia Watson, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 boards.

Marion has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. As for Manning, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-16.

Marion didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 45-35 defeat against Mullins on the 8th. As for Manning, they will welcome Lake City at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
