Basketball Game Preview: Pell City Panthers vs. Glencoe Yellowjackets

The Pell City Panthers will take on the Glencoe Yellowjackets at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Pell City took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They walked away with a 47-39 win over Orange Beach.

Pell City's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Saniya McFarlin, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten boards. The dominant performance gave McFarlin a new career-high in rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Zaniya Mitchell, who posted 12 points along with six rebounds and four steals.

Pell City smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5 offensive boards per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 10.1.

Meanwhile, Glencoe entered their tilt with Alexandria on Monday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They enjoyed a cozy 44-29 win over the Valley Cubs. Given the Yellowjackets' advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 94th, while the Valley Cubs are ranked 245th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Glencoe has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.3 points per game. As for Pell City, their victory bumped their record up to 5-16.
