Recap: Pace Academy Knights vs. Hampton Hornets
Make it 12 blowout wins for the Pace Academy Knights this season. They breezed by Hampton on the road to the tune of 59-24. Given Pace Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 12th, while Hampton is ranked 370th), the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Pace Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Eric Chatfield led the charge by scoring 17 points along with three steals. Chatfield hasn't dropped below two steals for 15 straight games. MJ Madison was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with eight rebounds.
Despite the loss, Hampton still got an impressive performance from Jordan Townsend, who scored 13 points. That was a full 54.2% of Hampton's points, marking the tenth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Pace Academy's victory was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-3. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 31.33 points. As for Hampton, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-15 record this season.
Pace Academy will look to defend their home court on Friday against Mt. Zion at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Mt. Zion focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Tuesday. As for Hampton, they will head out on the road to face off against McDonough at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. McDonough is coming into the contest hot, having won their last seven games.
