Basketball Recap: South Effingham Comes Up Short

South Effingham was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 63-59 heartbreaker at the hands of the Effingham County Rebels. The Mustangs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Rebels earlier this season, when they won 45-39.

When it comes to explaining why South Effingham lost, don't look at Hayden Johanson. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 29 points and ten boards. Those 29 points gave Johanson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kailyn Chapman, who posted ten points and six assists.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Effingham County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kyjana Jordan, who scored 18 points. The game was Jordan's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nakera M Hawkins, who had 14 points.

South Effingham's defeat dropped their record down to 6-18. As for Effingham County, with the win, they broke their 17-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-18.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Effingham will challenge Statesboro at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Effingham County, they will square off against Greenbrier at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
