Basketball Game Preview: North Schuylkill Spartans vs. Schuylkill Haven Hurricanes

The North Schuylkill Spartans will square off against the Schuylkill Haven Hurricanes at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.

North Schuylkill is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Loyalsock Township just ended the team's four-game winning streak two weeks ago. They fell to the Lancers 44-40. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 107th, while the Lancers are ranked 33rd).

Meanwhile, Schuylkill Haven waltzed into their game on Wednesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They blew past the Pirates 46-14. The Hurricanes have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matches by 27 points or more this season.

Schuylkill Haven's win came from a few key players North Schuylkill will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Audrey Hutchinson, who posted 11 points. Another player making a difference was Alea Porter, who put up ten points.

Schuylkill Haven pushed their record up to 15-4 with the win, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.8 points per game. As for North Schuylkill, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-4.

North Schuylkill took their victory against Schuylkill Haven in their previous meeting on January 7th by a conclusive 58-37. Does North Schuylkill have another victory up their sleeve, or will Schuylkill Haven turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
