Baseball Game Preview: Madison Patriots vs. University School Buccaneers

The Madison Patriots will challenge the University School Buccaneers at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Madison is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.

Madison's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. Everything went their way against Mitchell as they made off with an 8-0 win.

Zane Buckner made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. Buckner was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Max Shelton, who went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. He has become a key player for Madison: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-7 otherwise. Caleb Griffin was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Madison kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mitchell only managed three.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for University School's offense. They fell just short of Greeneville by a score of 2-0 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Buccaneers have suffered since April 6th.

Cole Stevenson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

University School's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 17-13. As for Madison, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season.
