Basketball Recap: Mississinewa Comes Up Short

Mississinewa fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Frankton on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Frankton Eagles by a score of 49-47. The Indians have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the loss, Mississinewa saw an underclassman step up: freshman Rayveon Fetz went 7-for-13 en route to 18 points. Fetz is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last six games he's played. Tyvon Jacobs was another key player, putting up five points and five steals.

Frankton's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brady Carmack, who went 10-for-20 on his way to 31 points in addition to five boards and four steals. Frankton is 6-2 when Carmack posts 20 or more points, but 5-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Trey Bennett, who went 6-for-8 to rack up 13 points and eight rebounds.

Mississinewa's defeat dropped their record down to 8-10. As for Frankton, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mississinewa will square off against Eastbrook at 7:30 p.m. on February 21st. As for Frankton, they will challenge Daleville at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
