Basketball Recap: Leandro Simbolo's Big Game Can't Quite Lead San Carlos over Gilbert Classical Academy

San Carlos came up into this matchup off a tough 51-point loss last Monday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Gilbert Classical Academy Spartans by a score of 57-54 on Thursday. The Braves have been going strong on the season, but this is now their second defeat in a row.

San Carlos' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Leandro Simbolo, who posted 12 points in addition to seven assists and seven rebounds. That's the most boards Simbolo has posted since back in December of 2024. Orlando Boni was another key player, putting up nine points and six rebounds.

San Carlos' defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-7. As for Gilbert Classical Academy, their victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-7.

San Carlos won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Horizon Honors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. San Carlos is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.1 points per game this season. As for Gilbert Classical Academy, they will take on Pima at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
