Basketball Recap: Echols County Comes Up Short

Echols County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were beaten by the Brooks County Trojans 66-36. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 464th, while the Trojans are ranked 180th).

Lexie Bone and Sydni Goss certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Bone dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Goss went 8 of 13 en route to 17 points. With that strong performance, Goss is now averaging an impressive 15.5 points per game. Jayden Carter was another key player, putting up two points and seven boards.

Brooks County's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Armani Frazier, who went 6 for 14 to rack up 14 points and six steals. That's the most steals Frazier has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Janiyah Thomas, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 12 rebounds.

Echols County's loss dropped their record down to 7-13. As for Brooks County, the victory (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 16-2.

Echols County didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 47-29 defeat against Lanier County on the 1st. As for Brooks County, they have also already played their next contest, a 62-38 win against Irwin County on the 1st.
