Preview: Nelsonville-York Buckeyes vs. Marietta Tigers
The Nelsonville-York Buckeyes will head out on the road to face off against the Marietta Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Nelsonville-York focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Monday.
Nelsonville-York lost a heartbreaker to Federal Hocking when they met back in January of 2019, and they left with a heavy heart again. Nelsonville-York's rough 73-51 defeat to Federal Hocking might stick with them for a while. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Nelsonville-York in their matchups with Federal Hocking: they've now lost three in a row.
Despite their loss, Nelsonville-York saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Alayna Okulich, who dropped a double-double on 10 points and 10 rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Airah Lavy, who scored 23 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 steals.
Meanwhile, Marietta humbled Martins Ferry with a 61-33 victory. The win made it back-to-back wins for Marietta.
Nelsonville-York's loss dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Marietta, their win bumped their record up to 2-0.
Nelsonville-York and Marietta were neck-and-neck in their previous matchup back in November of 2022, but Nelsonville-York came up empty-handed after a 55-54 defeat. Can Nelsonville-York avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
