Basketball Game Preview: The Ambrose School Archers vs. Melba Mustangs

The Ambrose School and Melba are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2022, but not for long. The Ambrose School Archers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Melba Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Ambrose School knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight games -- so hopefully Melba likes a good challenge.

Last Thursday, The Ambrose School beat Nampa Christian 66-58.

The Ambrose School got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Lincoln Mathis out in front who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 boards. The matchup was Mathis' third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tristen Trevino, who posted 20 points and five steals.

The Ambrose School smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in six consecutive contests.

Melba hasn't had quite the year their fans were hoping for to this point, but back-to-back wins may be a sign of good things to come. They strolled past Marsing with points to spare on Thursday, taking the game 75-58.

The Ambrose School has also been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.8 points per game. As for Melba, their win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-11.

The Ambrose School was able to grind out a solid victory over Melba in their previous meeting back in January, winning 63-50. Will The Ambrose School repeat their success, or does Melba have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
