Volleyball Recap: Mt. Gilead Indians vs. Cardington-Lincoln Pirates

After flying high against Bucyrus last Saturday, Mt. Gilead came back down to earth. The Mt. Gilead Indians fell just short of the Cardington-Lincoln Pirates by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Indians of the 3-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2023.

Mt. Gilead took a 2-1 lead headed into the fourth set, but sadly they lost the next two. The match finished with set scores of 25-19, 20-25, 20-25, 25-17, 15-9.

Despite the loss, Mt. Gilead saw an underclassman step up: Kylee Whipple had 20 digs. With that strong performance, Whipple is now averaging an impressive 10.6 digs per game.

Mt. Gilead has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season. As for Cardington-Lincoln, their win ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-8.

Mt. Gilead will face off against Ridgemont at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Cardington-Lincoln, they will square off against Northmor at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
