Baseball Recap: Mission College Prep Comes Up Short

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Friday as neither Mission College Prep nor Lompoc made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Royals fell just short of the Braves by a score of 2-1. The Royals were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Braves earlier this season, when they won 9-5.

Armen Clayton was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits.

On the hitting side, Mission College Prep saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Thomas Glenn, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Sean Rivas also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Mission College Prep has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only 1.33 runs. As for Lompoc, their win bumped their record up to 7-5.

Mission College Prep didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 6-5 loss against St. Joseph on the 14th. As for Lompoc, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 6-3 victory against Atascadero on the 14th.
