Basketball Recap: Jefferson Mustangs vs. MacArthur Brahmas
The Jefferson Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their 18th straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 91-24 loss at the hands of MacArthur. While losing is never fun, Jefferson can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1334th, while the Brahmas are ranked 356th).
MacArthur's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lyah Neira led the charge by scoring 16 points along with eight steals and seven assists. Neira has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kaitlyn Gonzales, who went 6 for 8 from beyond the arc en route to 22 points and 0 assists.
Jefferson has been struggling recently as they've lost 21 of their last 22 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-27 record this season. As for MacArthur, they pushed their record up to 22-11 with that victory, which was their eighth straight on the road.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Jefferson will take on the Hurricanes at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for MacArthur, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Voks at 7:30 p.m.
