Colerain takes over top spot after Moeller falls to St. Edward.

After sitting at No. 2 for much of the season, Colerain makes the jump to the top spot in this week's Midwest rankings.

There was finally a changing of the guard at the top of the Midwest Top 25 rankings, as Colerain assumed the No. 1 spot after Archbishop Moeller's loss to St. Edward.
Moeller, which fell to No. 5, had been the Midwest's top team for the entire season until this week.

1. (2 last week) Colerain (Cincinnati) 9-0The Cardinals moved into the top ranking following a 49-10 rout of Middletown (Ohio).
De Tuan Smith led the way by running 12 times for 177 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

2. (6) St. Edward (Lakewood, Ohio) 7-1The Eagles rebounded from their first loss the previous week to topple then No. 1-ranked Moeller (Cincinnati) 45-42.
Andrew Dowell carried 30 times for 204 yards and three touchdowns, while
Brett Kean accounted for 226 yards and three touchdowns.

3. (3) Cass Tech (Detroit) 9-0Cass Tech won the battle of unbeatens and the city championship by beating Martin Luther King (Detroit) 20-14.
Jayru Campbell passed for 152 yards and two touchdowns as the winning streak reached 15 games.
Damon Webb had an interception and two late sacks to pace the defense.

4. (4) Brother Rice (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) 9-0

The Warriors defeated Catholic Central (Novi, Mich.) for the second time, 20-7, to win the Prep Bowl.
Alex Malzone completed 14 of 22 passes for 156 yards and one touchdown and the defense yielded just 105 yards.

5. (1) Archbishop Moeller (Cincinnati) 8-1The Crusaders lost their No. 1-ranking and 14-game winning streak when then No. 6 St. Edward (Lakewood, Ohio) jumped out to a 31-0 lead and held on for a 45-42 victory.
Gus Ragland accounted for 407 yards and six touchdowns, while
Isaiah Gentry made 10 catches for 173 yards and three touchdowns.

6. (9) Montini (Lombard, Ill.) 9-0The Broncos scored all their points in the first half of a 47-0 victory over Central Catholic (Aurora, Ill.).
Alex Wills completed nine of 11 passes for 133 yards and two touchdowns to lead the rout.

7. (7) Blue Springs (Mo.) 9-0The Wildcats handed Lee's Summit (Mo.) its first loss by a convincing 49-7 margin. They forced three first-half turnovers and scored on all three of them.
Dalvin Warmack set the pace by running 15 times for 143 yards and three touchdowns.

8. (8) Eden Prairie (Minn.) 8-0The Eagles launched the Class 6A section playoffs with a 39-12 victory over Armstrong (Robbinsdale).
Charlie Venable returned after an injury had kept him out of five games and was the leader with 10 carries for 86 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

9. (11) Penn (Mishawaka, Ind.) 10-0The Kingsmen opened Class 6A sectional action with a 28-7 victory over Portage as

The Bears were handed their first loss, 24-17, by Stevenson (Lincolnshire, Ill.) after taking an early 17-0 lead. Three second-half turnovers matched their entire total for the previous eight games.

23. (23) Carroll (Wichita, Kan.) 8-0The Golden Eagles raised their winning streak to 21 games with a 48-0 rout of Goddard (Kan.).
Denzel Goolsby ran nine times for 93 yards and three touchdowns in the first half.
Mark Quaney led the defense, which yielded just 64 yards, with a pair of interceptions.

24. (24) Ben Davis (Indianapolis) 8-2The Giants won their sixth straight game with a 45-14 verdict against Avon in the Class 6A sectional opener.
Kyle Castner passed for three touchdowns and ran for a fourth.

25. (25) Bismarck (N.D.) 9-0The Demons boosted their winning streak to 26 games with a 28-14 victory over previously unbeaten Dakota Memorial (Minot, N.D.).
Ricardo Galindo ran for 193 yards and all four touchdowns, while
Kole Bauer recovered three fumbles.

Dropped out: No. 20 Wheaton North (Wheaton, Ill.) lost to Glenbard North (Carol Stream, Ill.) 33-13.
