Basketball Recap: Normal Community Piles Up the Points Against Normal West

Normal Community posted their biggest victory since January 31st on Friday. They took their game with ease, bagging a 68-37 win over the Normal West Wildcats. Given the Ironmen's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 33rd, while the Wildcats are ranked 375th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the loss, Normal West still got an impressive performance from Michael Zaleski, who posted 14 points. What's more, Zaleski also posted a 50% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's achieved since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Maliq Givens-Smith, who scored four points and three steals.

Normal Community has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 14 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 25-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.2 points over those games. Normal West's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-20.

Normal Community will have a chance to go back-to-back against Normal West: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
