Softball Game Preview: Morristown Yellow Jackets vs. Knightstown Panthers

Morristown is 0-3 against Knightstown since April of 2015 but things could change on Tuesday. The Yellow Jackets will challenge the Panthers at 5:00 p.m. Morristown is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.

Morristown will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Friday, then bounced right back against Irvington Preparatory Academy on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets blew past Irvington Preparatory Academy 19-6. The win continues a trend for the Yellow Jackets in their matchups with Irvington Preparatory Academy: they've now won four in a row.

Abby Hawk was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-5. She also hit a triple, marking her first of the season.

In other batting news, Morristown let Nevaeh Cox and Mykynzy Smith run wild. Cox went 5-for-6 with five RBI, three runs, and two doubles, while Smith scored five runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-5. The dominant performance also gave Smith a new career-high in RBI (three). Ayvah Weir was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-5.

Morristown was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .442. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Irvington Preparatory Academy only posted a batting average of .231.

Meanwhile, Knightstown didn't have quite enough to beat Northeastern on Monday and fell 6-5. The defeat continues a trend for the Panthers in their meetings with the Knights: they've now lost three in a row.

The victory got Morristown back to even at 2-2. As for Knightstown, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.

Morristown might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Knightstown in their previous meeting back in April of 2023. Can the Yellow Jackets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
