Basketball Recap: Atchison Comes Up Short

If Atchison was feeling good fresh off their 52-15 takedown of Harmon last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Atchison Phoenix lost 48-28 to the Maryville Spoofhounds on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Phoenix have suffered since January 24th.

Despite the loss, Atchison saw an underclassman step up: freshman Alondra Herrera posted 11 points in addition to six boards and four steals.

Even though they lost, Atchison smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in seven consecutive games.

Atchison dropped their record down to 8-9 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight at home. As for Maryville, they now have a winning record of 11-10.

Atchison didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 50-42 loss against Highland Park on the 22nd. Maryville has also already played their next contest (against Savannah), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
