Black River (Ohio) junior running back
Riley Gibbs may be small in stature, but is large in heart. The Pirates' back ran over, through and finally dragged most of the Columbia defense into the end zone Friday night in Black River's 49-31 win over the Raiders.
The 5-foot-8, 165-pounder, who also plays middle linebacker, took the second-down handoff from the 25, ran right and found some space on the egde. Gibbs threw a stiff arm before being corralled into a scrum of Raiders' defenders near the 10. No problem, as Gibbs emerged from the pile to sprint into the end zone.
Black River, 4-1, has put up at least 35 points in each of its wins. The Pirates host Keystone on Friday to start league play.
