Recap: Socastee Braves vs. Sumter Gamecocks
The Socastee Braves suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Wednesday. They took a serious blow against Sumter, falling 86-32. While losing is never fun, Socastee can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 145th, while Sumter is ranked fourth).
Socastee's loss came despite strong showings from Bri Smith and Anna Reese Pratt. Smith scored 15 points along with two steals, while Pratt scored four points along with eight rebounds. Pratt has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last six times she's played.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sumter to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kiara Croskey, who scored 23 points along with seven rebounds and six steals. Croskey is absolutely dominating the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Rickell Brown, who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and seven assists.
This is the second loss in a row for Socastee and nudges their season record down to 5-10. As for Sumter, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 14-0.
Socastee will head out on the road to face off against St. James at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. St. James will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive. Sumter will take on Carolina Forest at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
