Baseball Recap: Saddleback Takes a Loss

Saddleback's last matchup with Western could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's game on Thursday. The Roadrunners came up short against the Pioneers, falling 11-3. The Roadrunners have struggled against the Pioneers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Joaquin Cornejo was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple was his first of the season.

Cornejo wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Bailey Wright, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI. David Sanchez also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Saddleback's record now sits at 2-4. As for Western, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Saddleback has already played their next contest, an 11-4 defeat against Glenn on the 10th. As for Western, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 17-4 win against Workman on the 11th.
