Baseball Recap: Hardin-Jefferson Sets Scoring Season-High Against Tarkington

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hardin-Jefferson). They were the clear victors by a 13-7 margin over the Tarkington Longhorns on Tuesday. The Hawks have beaten the Longhorns the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Longhorns has come to flipping the script.

Hardin-Jefferson got a great performance from Brody Fontenot as he tossed 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Fontenot has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Gunner Sattler, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two doubles. Hardin-Jefferson is undefeated when Sattler posts two or more runs, but 3-12-1 otherwise. Luke McLeod was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Hardin-Jefferson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .424. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March of 2024.

Hardin-Jefferson's victory bumped their record up to 8-12-1. As for Tarkington, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-13-1.
