Softball Recap: Conneaut Spartans vs. Madison Blue Streaks
Conneaut had lost five straight at home dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 2-7 to make it six. They lost 13-2 to the Madison Blue Streaks. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Blue Streaks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 20-1 on April 9th.
Conneaut saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chloe Boyle, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
As for Madison, their victory bumped their record up to 10-3. Considering they have won five matches by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
On Madison's side, Kara Mekulsia was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Mekulsia has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.
In other batting news, Ally Negin was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Gianna LaMarco, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base.
Looking ahead, Conneaut will face off against Pymatuning Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Spartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lakers have averaged an impressive 13.1 runs per game this season. As for Madison, they will challenge Brush at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
