Basketball Recap: Newton Comes Up Short

Newton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 13th straight defeat dating back to last season. They were beaten by the Emporia Spartans 84-39. While losing is never fun, the Railroaders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 297th, while the Spartans are ranked 16th).

Newton's loss dropped their record down to 0-11. As for Emporia, their victory was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-1.

Looking ahead, Newton will face off against Goddard at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Emporia, they will take on Washburn Rural at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Spartans' defense better be ready for this one: the Blues have averaged an impressive 58.7 points per game this season.
