Softball Recap: Marshall Find Success

While Marshall's victory against Columbus wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Marshall sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over Columbus on Friday. Marshall hasn't had any issues with Columbus recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Kennedy Weisensel made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 18 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

Marshall's win bumped their record up to 15-9. As for Columbus, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-12.

Marshall and Columbus could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Wisconsin Rankings. The Cardinals will challenge Oregon at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank disadvantage (141 vs. 11). Meanwhile, Columbus (ranked 282nd) will meet Deerfield (ranked 88th) at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
