Baseball Recap: Princeton Tigers vs. James Monroe Mavericks
Princeton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 14th straight loss. They took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the James Monroe Mavericks. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mavericks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-12 back in March.
Deegan Walters put in work while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over 5.2 innings pitched. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.
Walters wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Landon Crane, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.
Princeton's defeat dropped their record down to 2-14. As for James Monroe, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season.
Princeton will challenge Wyoming East at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Warriors' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Tigers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for James Monroe, they will host Liberty at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
