Football Recap: Byers Comes Up Short

It was a proper cat-fight when Byers duked it out with North Panola on Friday. The Lions took a blow against the Cougars, falling 33-0. The loss put an end to the Lions' undefeated start to the season.

Corey Willis Jr. threw for 52 yards on six of 14 attempts. Jayden Lesueur was his top target, picking up 44 receiving yards. On the ground, Kesean Lafrance rushed for 54 yards.

Leading North Panola to victory were Stetson Rayford and Marco Goings. Rayford rushed for 159 yards and one touchdown on only ten carries, while Goings picked up 97 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. Rayford's longest rush was for an impressive 65 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

Having lost for the first time this season, Byers fell to 2-1. As for North Panola, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Byers will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Thrasher at 7:00 p.m. on the 26th. As for North Panola, they will challenge St. George's at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Gryphons' defense has only allowed 13.8 points per game this season, so the Cougars' offense will have their work cut out for them.
